On your Layers palette, turn off the visibility for your background and Raster 1 layers (there should be a red "X" on the eyeballs):
Make sure that one of the visible layers are highlighted (one of those without the red "X" on the eyeball.
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible
Turn the visibility back on for the background and Raster 1 layers (there are no red "X" on any of the eyeballs) and the merged layer is still highlighted:
Using the Raster Deform Tool (D) grab the node in the middle on the right side and move it slightly towards the left side:
As you can see, this helps create a more sunken look.

Now lets add the some 2D/3D effects.
On your Layers palette, highlight the Background Layer:
Layers > New Raster Layer... > Ok
Selection Tool (S) and Selection type: Rectangle
We'll start at the bottom of the image first. Create a rectangular selection across the the image like this:
On the Materials palette, set your Foreground color to #202020 > Ok.
Use the Flood Fill Tool (F) and fill the selection:
Selections > Select None
Adjust > Blur > Gauissan > Radius: 20 > Okay
Is that neat or what!

Layers > Duplicate
Using the Move Tool (M), move the image towards the top of our sunken image:
Tip: You can move it up or down for different effects. Sometimes while doing this your eyes can play tricks on you. So, after moving it, look away from the monitor for just a few seconds and then look back at your image.

Layers > New Raster Layer... > Ok
Selection Tool (S) and Selection type: Rectangle
Now we'll give the appearance that the center is slightly rounded. Create a rectangular selection right through the middle of the image like this:
On the Materials palette, set your Foreground color to white #FFFFFF > Ok.
Use the Flood Fill Tool (F) and fill the selection:
Selections > Select None
Adjust > Blur > Gauissan > Radius: 20 > Okay
Congratulations! Now you can move the "special effects" layers around to see the different shapes (or illusions) that can be created.
